This is a demanding surgical procedure. It is performed under general anaesthesia, the condition of the procedure is a consultation with a urologist. After the urologist consults and recommends the procedure, the patient undergoes a preoperative examination. The surgery itself usually takes 90-120 minutes.
During the surgery, the surgeon must successfully connect both ends of the fallopian tube that were severed during sterilization. This procedure requires the use of a special microscope.
The average chance of successful reversal of vasectomy is about 40-90 percent.
The success rate of vasectomy reversal depends on several factors (e.g. the length of time elapsed since sterilization, the presence of scarring after the procedure, the amount of healthy sperm) The success rate of the procedure is assessed after 4-6 months by analysis of a semen sample.
In the postoperative period, the following may occur:
Bleeding in the scrotal area, soreness or infection. If complications occur, contact your operating physician immediately.
