IPL epilation works on the principle of selective photothermolysis. The light beam penetrates the hair root (follicle), reacts with its dye and by converting the light radiation into heat energy, the hair root is heated to an extremely high temperature and is definitely destroyed.

Since both hair and hairs go through certain growth cycles during their lifetime, for a successful epilation result it is necessary to hit the hair in its active growth phase (anagen), when it contains the most dye. The number – percentage of roots (follicles) in the active phase varies from one part of the body to another and to some extent individually. The other roots on that part of the body are in the resting phase (telogen).

Sooner or later, the dormant roots will wake up and start growing hairs. Therefore, sufficiently long pauses are necessary between each epilation, which are directly dependent on the length of the resting phase on the body part in question, so that the maximum amount of hair can enter the active phase, darken and be destroyed by the IPL light beam. In general, the best time to repeat the procedure is when the hair is starting to grow back. This phase of root growth (dormant at the time of the previous epilation) occurs 3 – 8 weeks after the previous procedure.

Untanned skin is suitable for IPL hair removal. Parts of the body that may be exposed to direct or indirect sunlight should be protected with a cream with a higher sun protection factor (50).

Hairs must not be epilated with a razor or any other method that plucks them out (at least 6 weeks before the procedure). The hairs can be shaved with a razor or trimmed with scissors. On average, epilation should be repeated 5 to 8 times, at intervals of 3-4 weeks. Any information about the results of permanent hair removal after one or two treatments cannot be true or objective. In a small percentage of cases (depending on individual skin and hair characteristics), the number of epilation repetitions required may be lower or higher than average.

IPL hair removal removes unwanted hair permanently. Due to the physiology of the hair and the many other factors that influence hair growth, the results (in a very small percentage of cases) may not correlate exactly with the theory. The desired result is a permanent reduction of unwanted hair, i.e. a permanent reduction in the number of hairs in the area and a change in their quality to fine, light hairs, which the client already perceives as aesthetically harmless.
